Summer Tours

Having seen the Irish touring side, heard the thinking on the English touring squad, seen the Welsh leave behind 18 but take Henson (good for his tan), and just not caring about what the Scots are doing!!, I am amazed any of these tours are going ahead!
The use to the coaches is................what??!
Unearthing new exciting talent??
Giving youth a chance???
Gaining valuable experience????
Bollocks!!
They have all been arranged for money, by Unions that are still completely out of touch with the needs of players, but obsessed with the desire for money.
And heading that list, at the top of the pile, coming in first, lengths ahead of any other union in the incompetency stake handicap, is..... ENGLAND !!!!
Well Done the RFU !!!

Isn't the point that the international rugby calendar is now completely dominated by the RWC, players are now effectively "retiring" from international rugby between cups.
The summer tour is now a historical relic, better to come clean and say that future tours are to be for development squads only. The problem is the punters might not want to pay through the nose to see them. If the income from international tours is lost where would that leave the RFU etc?

The problem is that they do unearth new talent and stuff like that, but then after the tour, those promising stars are dumped in favour of those chosen to start in the important Autumn Internationals, Six nations and RWC later on!

I know I keep banging on about Chris Jones but he was a case in point, awesome 2nd row, caused mayhem against Australia, only to vanish after the tests and played game after miserable game for Sale. Tom Varndell has taken a better route, after embarrasing Lorque Tiquiri, he chose to improve his skills playing for Bedford and England Saxons and now he is an awesome Winger for Leicester, but still, the main England set up have all but forgotten about him!!! Imagine an England with Varndell and Strettle on the wings!!! My mouth waters at the chaos those two could cause together!

But it'll never happen because the RFU have forgotten about what these Summer tours were meant to be about!
