Dear All,

I hope many of you have heard the latest podcast, and Campo's amusing rant!! Not bad, i was quite impressed!!

here's the link...

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/portal/main.jhtml?xml=/portal/exclusions/podcast/podcastportal.xml

We would appreciate your comments on the podcast, what you like, how it could be improved, what new ideas you would like to see included?
Would a video/ podcast appeal?? We can easily do that, and we could get a guest in every week?
Anyway I hope you will give me your feedback, and look forward to it!

I enjoyed the podcast and thought Campo made some valid points. A lot of people seem to be hoping that England's injured players can walk straight back into the international side, but how long does it take someone (other than JW) to gain full match fitness after being out for months?

Also
Two sets of backs
Wilkinson, Farrell, Tindall, Robinson, Lewsey
This season Guiness Premiership cumulative stats 44 matches played 4 tries scored

Wilkinson, Allen, Tait, Varndell, Strettle
This season Guiness Premiership cumulative stats 43 matches played 23 tries scored

Data from http://www.guinnesspremiership.com

I thought Ashton was picking players who were in form?

Chris,

quite interesting (for you!!)
I think we will see at the announcement of the next England side how Ashton is now viewing selection.
I would have to agree that up to now he seems to have picked on two factors;

Potential
Past form / known performer

I think it might be time to pick on current form, and to add a certain element of building for the future. It always has to be remembered, however, that there is still a huge difference between premiership skills / pace/ intensity, and top International rugby.
But I think Ashton needs to make an informed judgement on some of the young guys as to whether they have that ability to step up, or not, as I no longer see the point of trying to paper over the cracks. The cracks are too big!!! ( I know that might excite some!!!!)

The podcast was quality. Great to hear the aussie legend on the line. From a neutral perspective Id agree with chris, definate question marks over some of his selections. Think Zinzan made a good point about Greenwood, he really is badly missed in the england backline. His offload in the tackle was second to none. He had that little something extra though, where 9 times out of 10 he would get the bounce of the ball. He also looked an incredibly tough bloke to tackle. He was always smiling aswell which seemed to lift the spirits within the camp.

Podcast was quality this week, like Campo's little cameo too (especially the constant bickering over "binoculars" LOL).

Now might be the time to bring back Varndell. If he comes back and is much wiser than when he played against Australia last year then that will vindicate the concept of loaning young new talent to ND1 to give them game time.

I think it shouldn't be beyond the realms of possibility that Clubs should look at loaning their young talent out to Foreign clubs in France or in the Magners League to get gametime.

I enjoy your podcasts and find the comments interesting. Love the rants, thought Campo was a bit too accurate so somebody must have told him what to say. Far too intelligent and rational for him to come up with that on his own!

As for the Farrell and Tindall saga if everybody agrees that Farrell is such a good distributor and can offload and set up plays etc but the pairing of him and Tindall lacks pace and spark, why not talk about replacing Tindall? After all he is pretty much a known quantity, not a lot of spark about his play and if I were to be really charitable would describe him as rather direct no nonsense old fashioned style of center. If you partnered Farrell with somebody like Tait would that not change the mix for the better? Keeping a second play maker like Farrell gives us more options at first receiver, takes some of the pressure off JW etc. If you recall Catt was brought back into the England side to give more options and divert attention away from JW. That seemed to work well. However all the combinations in the world won’t amount too much if we can’t win the ball and dominate upfront!

To be fair to Campo, and I hate to be, he had no prompting or help!! So we were as shocked as you lot!!
Should be interesting to see what Ashton does!!!
4-5 changes is my bet!!

As for having a video podcast...mmm, apart from seeing the three of you visibly poking each other in the belly and giggling, I don't think it would add anything more to the excellent Audio podcast that you three already produce!

Good shout, I think, from the (other) old bald one. I think Zinny said Farrell needs more game time and if we all agree the pair doesn't work, then why not give Tindall a rest? It is a shame teh media focus was on that area though, teh forwards have got off relatively lightly!

What i think you guys should do, and i think it would be brilliant is stream your own comentary online like those blokes do for aussie rules over the radio in oz. They have a great nickname for every player and just basically slag the shit out of everyone, its great!! Im sure zinny has defo heard of these guys anyway. That way we could turn down the volume on our native commentry, which i think we are all united in how much it sucks these days, and listen to you guys instead. Dont know if this is possible, but just an idea.

You vain exhibitionist, you!
First you get your two shy, retiring co-presenters to get their kit off so you have an excuse to flash your body all over the Telegraph and then you want an extended run of nude exhibitionism in a video podcast!

Not a bad idea!

Although getting used to a bald Ieuan will take a while. He doesn't sound like a slap-head on the regular podcast.

Brian,

I know, he hasn't aged well has he!!! Ugly bastard!!
Leinsterfan, could be quite amusing!! I will find out what the chances are!
We are thinking of trying to do a RuckU highlights show for the World Cup. A bit like Soccer am, with humour, and audience, interaction etc etc. I.E not a boring analysis of each game whilst wearing a tie!!!
Hopefully we might be able to do it, but will let you know!
